TURNOUT GEAR AND

ALERTING PAGER DEVICE GUIDELINE

 

  1. The Upper Leacock Fire Company will make every effort to ensure that all responding members are issued a set of turnout gear and an alerting pager device at no cost to them based on availability or funds to purchase additional needed equipment.  Jump suits may be provided based upon availability and the members level of activity

 

  1. It is the responsibility of the Fire Chief OR his designee to oversee that gear and alerting pager devices are issued to new embers.

 

  1. It is the responsibility of the Fire Chief or his designee to oversee that all turnout gear and alerting pager devices are numbered. It will also be his or her responsibility to oversee that an active list is kept on file documenting member's names, gear numbers, pager numbers, and serial numbers.

 

  1. All gear and alerting pager devices will be kept in a clean, functional fashion at all times. NO EXCEPTIONS!

 

  1. All turnout gear will be kept at the Upper Leacock Fire Station unless a Chief Officer gives you approval to remove it for such things as training, etc.

 

  1. The Upper Leacock Fire Company will make every effort to make repairs to turnout gear and alerting pager devices as needed or as funding permits. No repairs shall be made by anyone unless a Chief Officer or his designee gives authorization to make needed repairs.

 

  1. Any Fire Company Member who loses gear or alerting pager devices belonging to the Upper Leacock Fire Company MAY be expected to reimburse the Company for that loss. Any member who willfully destroys gear or alerting pager devices will be required to make necessary repairs or reimbursement out of his or her own funds.

 

  1. The Fire Chief has the right to pull turnout gear and reassign it to another or demand the return of alerting pager devices and jump suits if ANY responding member fails to maintain a 20% incident response rate and/or Tuesday night training attendance unless a member qualifies under exemptions in rule #9 listed below.

 

  1. The Fire Chief has the right to extend an attendance exemption if a responding member has been given approval by the Fire Chief for an exemption listed below;

-         Any Injury, sickness, or disability.

-         An approved leave of absence.

-         Work shift conflicts.

-         Family/ children situations.

-         Other (any other reasonable situation approved by the Fire Chief that places hardship on the member to meet the attendance percentages).

 

10.    No Fire Company Member is permitted to alter the original state of any turnout gear or alerting pager device that has been issued to them.  No stickers, decals, patches or equipment of any kind may be affixed to Company owned turnout gear or alerting pager devices unless a Chief Officer has given permission.

 

11.    No turnout gear may be used by ANY Fire Company Member other then what was issued to them by the Fire Company.

 

12.    Turnout gear or an approved jump-suit will be worn at ALL times during a fire call response or training event UNLESS the Officer in Charge approves otherwise.

 

13.    No member is permitted to loan his or her assigned turnout gear or alerting pager device to ANYONE for ANY reason UNLESS a Chief Officer gives approval.

 

14.  All members must sign the turnout gear and alerting pager device agreement contract before they are issued.

 

15.    All members are required to IMMEDIATELY surrender their assigned gear and alerting pager device upon termination of membership or suspension that was imposed as part of disciplinary action.

 

16.    The Fire Chief or his designee shall be notified IMMEDIATELY of any damage and/ or needed repairs of turnout gear or alerting pager devices.

 

  1.  Upper Leacock Fire Company Turnout Gear Standards

-         BUNKER COAT- should be a tan colored PBI jacket with fluorescent orange colored reflective trim and 3 inch letters that spell "Upper Leacock" on the upper back area; preferably Globe or Janesville brand.

-         BUNKER PANTS - should be tan colored PBI pants with fluorescent orange colored trim; preferably Globe or Janesville brand

-         HELMET - will be a metro style helmet. white helmets for Chief Officers, red for Lieutenants and Captains, yellow helmets for fire fighters, engineers, and asst. engineers, blue helmets for safety officers, black with a yellow stripe for probationary fire fighters, and orange or black with a red stripe for junior fire fighters.  Fire police shall utilize orange Philadelphia style helmets.  All helmets will display a reflective decal on the front that matches the rank defining crescents on the side of the helmet.  All helmets will display 2-inch numbers of "3-11" in black or white colors, which shall be affixed below the side rank crescents.  Each helmet will display each member's last name and gear number on the rear portion of the helmet in black or white letters/numbers depending on the color of the helmet.  Letters/ numbers should be at least 3/4 high but no larger then 1-inch high.

-         NOMEX HOOD - Any brand of nomex hood.

-         GLOVES - Should be a leather style glove, brown in color with knit wrists similar to Fire Dex brand. Long wrist rescue extrication gloves may also be used similar to the Relay brand style or American Firewear brand.

-         BUNKER BOOTS - Should be black in color similar to the Ranger brand or Pro Warrinton brand.

 

18.  ALL TURNOUT GEAR SHOULD MEET NFPA STANDARDS that were in effect when the gear was purchsed.

 

19.  Only a Chief Officer is permitted to contact Lancaster County Wide Communications and request a tone test of an alerting pager device.
