Funeral Arrangements for Captain Marks - 12/29/2011

The officers and members of the Upper Leacock Fire Company regretfully announce the passing of Captain Scott L. Marks. Captain Marks entered into rest unexpectedly on December 24th at his residence in Leola. Captain Marks had retired from the NYPD and has been serving the community of Upper Leacock Township since 2006.

Captain Marks was widely known throughout Lancaster County and has served Warwick Community Ambulance, Warwick Township EMA, and numerous other organizations.

Funeral arrangements are scheduled for Thursday, December 29th, at the Worship Center, 2384 New Holland Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601. A public viewing will be held from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM, with services to follow immediately. A reception will be held following the services at the Worship Center.

While Captain Marks will be honored with a Fireman's Funeral there will be no graveside services. In lieu of a full apparatus procession, departments that are wishing to attend are encouraged to show their support with a display of apparatus to be held at the church.

Do not wake the Sauerkraut - 09/24/2011

On a recent Saturday morning the members of station 3-11 undertook an annual tradition of shredding of the cabbage for sauerkraut. For over 40 years, this late September event includes a full day of work, a little bit of cabbage (6 tons), some salt, and an awful lot of love. The 6 tons of cabbage yielded about 1,590 gallons of sauerkraut (a little less then normal) that will be used for our raw sauerkraut sales and for our annual sauerkraut dinner.

Raw sauerkraut sales will begin on Saturday, November 26th, and will be available every Saturday until January 1st. Sales are available at the Upper Leacock Fire Company on Saturdays from 9AM until 4PM. Please look for our signs out back!
