~~Rescue and Air 61 crews responded to a single vehicle crash this evening involving a truck transporting propane cylinders. Initial patient reports upgraded the response to a class one crash bringing ambulance 381 and medic 4-30. Crews confirmed no uncontrolled hazards and created a pathway for EMS crews by using a chainsaw to remove tree limbs. Crews then assisted EMS with patient care. During todays snow storm crews were standing by in station and performing some maintainence when they were alerted for a vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer on Glenbrook Rd in the area of Peace Rd. The rescue made the response in less then a minute. County advised that there was a tractor trailer overturned. Our volunteers answered two calls for service today, first one being a gas leak that actually turned into a small oven fire that was extinguished before crews arrived. A few hours later we were dispatched to assist EMS on a call. Please stay safe and warm this weekend and remember the volunteers that have to deal with emergencies in the less then desirable weather.
Rescue 61 and Ambulance 38-1 and 37-1 were dispatched at 16:19 hours for a vehicle accident class 2. Chief 61 arrived on scene and confirmed a 2 vehicle accident with blocking. Rescue 61 crew assisted EMS with patient care,deenergized both vehicles and cleaned up debris. Rescue went available on scene till the tow truck arrived and roadway was clear. Rescue 61 cleared the scene @ 17:14 hours and returned to Quarters.
Early this morning, Rescue 61 was requested for spill control services from a 2 car crash. Units arrived to find an active leak from the saddle tank and began containment efforts for a substantial amount of diesel fuel already on the ground. Hazmat 2 responded to offload the remaining diesel from the tanks and assist in containment, while fire police from 31 (bareville) assisted with traffic control. Units were in service for approximately 3 hours.
This evening crews were dispatched to a commercial structure on Maple street in Upper Leacock Twp. First arriving units found heavy fire coming from the roof. It was believed to have started in a lighting fixture. ULFC was assisted on scene by Bareville, Garden Spot Fire, West Earl, Farmersville, Lafayette, Southern Manheim, and Leola ambulance. Sunday evening just after 9pm our volunteers were dispatched to Forest Hill and Center Square Road for a 2 vehicle accident with reported entrapment. Deputy Gehman arrived to confirm no entrapment and 6 people to be checked out. ULFC was assisted by West Earl (station 29), Leola Ambulance (3-8) and ECH Medic 3. Crews from ULFC and Witmer responded to a report of an overturned vehicle with entrapment at Horseshoe Rd and Hellers Church Rd this afternoon. Crews found a lawn care truck on its side with the patient self extricated. Engine 62-1, Rescue 61, and Air 61 established a suppression line, assisted EMS, and investigated chemical data information, prior to completing hazard control.
Shortly after 2:00 volunteers were dispatched for a 3 vehicle crash on Newport Rd. at Stumptown Rd. R61 and Air61 crews assisted EMS and cleared hazards and debris until the scene was turned over to PD
A little after midnight engine 61-1 (for the hose) was dispatched as part of the first alarm assignment for a barn fire to assist Martindale Fire Company, when the engine arrived they where sent to a fill site to fill tankers. The call went to a 2 alarm. The crew of 6 remained on scene a little less then 2 hours.
Last evening as our monthly business meeting ended the rescue was dispatched to assist station 31 (Bareville) on a working mobile home fire. Deputy 31 (Oberholtzer) reported being a mile out with an "orange glow" in the sky and requested our assistance. The rescue responded with 6 under the direction of Assistant Chief Nolt in less then one minute. We laid 1000' feet of 5" hose to get water to the scene and assisted with overhaul. On Friday January 25 as the snow started to fall members of Upper Leacock along with West Earl and Leola Ambulance were alerted for a vehicle accident with reported entrapment at Quarry Rd and Forest Hill Rd. Chief 29 (Stoltzfus) arrived to report one on its roof, negative entrapment. The other vehicle involved had fled the scene. Rescue 61 remained on scene to assist the tow company. The department answered two calls for assistance this weekend, late Sunday night we were dispatched to the first block of Quarry Rd for a vehicle into a structure, first arriving Chiefs found minor damage to the building with the vehicle already fleeing the scene.
